Roommates and rooms in Aarhus

Aarhus is Denmark's second-largest city with 373,388 inhabitants in the municipality and 301,049 in the urban area (Statistics Denmark, 1 January 2025). Aarhus University alone has around 38,000 students (AU i tal). That means a big, dynamic shared housing market, but also fierce competition for the good rooms, especially in August–September.

Neighborhoods: where do you fit?

Midtbyen / Latin Quarter

Cobblestone streets, cafés, Bispetorvet, ARoS right around the corner. Central and lively, but limited supply of larger shared flats.

Trøjborg

The student classic. Close to Aarhus University, lots of cheap eats and cafés. Big supply of 3–4 bedroom 70s-era flats.

Frederiksbjerg

Cozy and a bit more grown-up: good cafés, brunch spots, short walk to the central station. Popular with master's and PhD students.

Aarhus Ø

The newest part of town: modern apartments with harbor views, expensive but brand new. More mature demographic, lots of young professionals.

Vesterbro / Vest

Cheaper, mixed, multicultural. Good university access via Vestre Ringgade.
